Nile river
food
They
caught fish with nets and spears. Cat fish, Tiger Fish, Elephant Fish, Nile
Perch, eels, sharks, dolphin and Tilapia are the fish they caught. They also
caught birds that flew close to the surface. They grew wheat, barley and beans
near the Nile River. They gathered papyrus to make boats, chairs and paper from
the reeds.
agriculture
When
the Nile River flooded a rich, fertilized, brown silt layer cover the land
surrounding the Nile River, making the land suitable to grow wheat, beans, barley
and occasionally cotton. They had no water for their crops where they grew, so
they learnt to dig short canals, leading to their crops. That would supply
their crops with water until the next Nile flood.
transport
From
the gathered papyrus they built boats to transport people and goods like wheat
and barley to cities up the river. Pharaoh’s used to travel to their cities in
big papyrus boats or pharaoh would travel in their boat for fun. They did not
have electric motors
water
Water from the Nile was used to water crops on fields next to the Nile. The soil used for farming comes from when the Nile floods. As well as crops animals also need water.
